Normally a quite characterless wood somewhere between light tan and yellow – except in the case of „rainbow poplar”. While the sapwood is yellowish white, rainbow poplar's caramel brown heartwood can show more or less streaks ranging from yellow, brown, olive, red, purple to violet and black - sometimes all at the same time.
